Google tries jump-starting 3D Web with O3D...

Google on Tuesday released software called O3D to bring accelerated 3D graphics to browsers, a significant effort but not the only one to try to 3dwebendow Web applications with some of the computing muscle that PC programs can use.
Google's O3D lets browsers show accelerated 3D graphics such as this island scene.

O3D is a browser plug-in for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome that works on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, but Google hopes that eventually, the technology will be built directly into browsers. It provides an interface that lets developers’ Web-based JavaScript programs tap directly into a computer’s graphics chip, which could mean better games and other applications.

Google touted the technology in a blog post. It includes a video demonstration, complete with a soothing voice-over and a spacey ambient-music soundtrack, for those who don’t want to install the plug-in.

Google isn’t the only one to aspire to 3D Web. In the 1990s, a technology called Virtual Reality Markup Language (VRML) bubbled up but never caught on. Today’s Internet is a different beast, not least because major powers such as Google, Yahoo, and even Microsoft are advancing the frontiers of what can be done with a Web-based application.

“The time is right for 3D content to move onto the Web,” said Henry Bridge, associate product manager.

Mozilla wants 3D, too
He’s right, at least in the eyes of his peers. Firefox backer Mozilla and the Khronos Group, which oversees the widely used OpenGL 3D interface standard, announced their own effort to build a 3D Web interface.

The two efforts, while tackling the same basic idea, use different approach.

“OpenGL tends to be a lot of code to write, even for something simple, but OpenGL gives you a lot of control,” said Engineering Director Matt Papakipos, who previously ran the architecture group at graphics chip power Nvidia. “Ours is at a higher level. It takes fewer function calls, so it’s easier to get stuff on the screen.”

Google believes that it’s possible that multiple 3D interfaces will be supported in browsers of the future. “Ultimately, there’s going to be at least two,” Papakipos said, pointing out that 2D graphics in the browser has two technologies at present, SVG and Canvas.

Google has been working on the open-source plug-in software for two years, Bridge said. The plug-in is intended less for regular users of the Web and more for programmers trying to explore what can be done with 3D on the Web.

Appealing to gamers
Although Google has applications such as Google Earth that would benefit from 3D acceleration, the company knows well that games are the real draw.

“If you look at how we use 3D hardware, 20 years ago, it was CAD (computer-aided design). Today, it’s for playing games,” Papakipos said.

There are plenty of casual gamers who might be interested in Web games that today might run with Adobe Systems’ Flash technology. But hard-core gamers are a pickier set, eager for the latest graphics card with the best performance. So how well does O3D perform?

“We can push it to the wall. There’s not really any difference between native performance and our performance,” Papakipos said. However, he added, that’s just for the graphics component of the game. Ordinary computing operations that use JavaScript are much slower than native software running on a computer, he said.

Google’s cloud gets ready for the enterprise...

Last week’s announcement of Java support for Google App Engine (GAE), along with a host of new features aim specifically at businesses, served to googlereconfirm the Internet giant’s interest in providing enterprises with its evolving cloud computing capabilities. So what’s new and what’s missing in GAE for enterprises that are looking to try out the cloud?

For its part, the enterprise software market has so far remained fairly resistant to Google’s offerings, which range from search to SaaS products, at least compared to the uptake in software from established enterprise leaders such as Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, and SAP.

But today’s increasingly broad interest in cloud computing may provide Google with an ideal opening. That is, if they can successfully deliver their unique strengths in the technical and economic underpinnings of networked computing in a form businesses find compelling for cutting costs, becoming more agile, and transitioning successfully to the next generation of computing. Google Launches Analytics API...

What this means is that Google is enabling developers to extend Google Analytics in new and creative ways by providing a standardized platform google-analyticsfor integrating analytics data with their own business data. Developers can integrate Google Analytics into their existing products and create stand-alone applications that they sell. Users could see snapshots of their analytics data in developer-created dashboards and gadgets. And users and business owners will have opportunities to access their Google Analytics information in a variety of new ways.

Google People Search...

Google launched people search yesterday which shows profiles in the google search results.

Building Your Google Profile Page

The profiles all come from Google Profile pages, which means in order for a google-profile-resultschance to appear, you’ve got to have a page. That’s fairly easy. There’s no charge to have a page, and you needn’t use any particular Google services, either. Just sign-up here. You can also search for “me” on Google, and if you’re signed-in, you’ll see an option promoting how to make your own profile.

After signing-up, you can provide a variety of information about yourself, including:

  • Your picture
  • Your first and/or last name
  • Nickname
  • Where you grew up
  • Where you live
  • Where you work
  • Schools you’ve attended
  • A biography
  • Links to web sites you wish to list
  • Pictures from your Picasa, Flickr or other online photo albums
  • Contact information, which can be shared selectively with people

Not all of these options were offered when Profile pages were first launched. The pages have gained more features over time, and the new additions have been pretty poorly communicated, I’d say. If you’re like me, you’ve probably had a fairly bare display.

The new system will cause many people to reexamine their profiles, as they hope to appear in Google’s main results. But with only four spaces, some names will be competitive. Which ones will show? Those that Google feels are “comprehensive enough,” Kraus said. Read More>>

Google is More Intelligent - Don’t get penalized...

google1I just want to share some of the facts which I have learnt these years about the SEO and Optimization. One think what I can say is Google is more intelligent then what we think in ranking your sites. I will be posting frequently in the coming posts. That may help new SEO’s to learn easily. In my first post I am writing about the PR Punishment by Google. All my posts will be based on Google search engine.

Don’t get penalized

This is from my experience. When it comes to selling links in your website, google is very strict and if they found out, it is sure they will be punishing you. Here punishing is reducing your PR. But it doesn’t affect your SERP since the SERP is calculated on many other equations. Toolbar PR is very important for you to market your site. Some people argue that toolbar PR is not so important but I could see still people are giving importance for that. I can give you few points on placing the external links in your site:

  1. Reduce the number of external links that will increase your PR leakage.
  2. Don’t give external links if it is not related to your niche. This is one easy way for google to find the Link forms.
  3. Give external links if it is more related to your niche, that will help your PR.
  4. If you have BLOG, then don’t add more links on the side bar.
  5. Always keep checking your forums and blog comments if there is spam posts. It is always good if you approve the comments for your blog. In the case of forums you have to delete all the spams otherwise it will be indexed in google and more chance for degrade your site from the search engines.
  6. Don’t allow any malware to be installed in your site. It happened to me few weeks back, when google detected malware from my site it started banning all the pages in my site and issues warning to users (http://www.stopbadware.org/).
  7. Don’t copy the content from other sites. Please always try to write the original content.

Google KeyWords Optimization Tips...

googleThis is my second post on the series of tips for SEO optimization. The tips provided by me is from my own experience and I am ready to answer your queries. In this post I will explaining about the KeyWords optimization

KeyWords optimization for SEO

If you are running a website it is more important to concentrate on the KeyWords optimization. Most of the people will be looking into increasing the PR of the website, they assume that high PR will get more traffic. I have two sites with PR 3 and PR 5. I am getting more traffic from PR 3 site. So, focusing on keywords is the main part for increasing the traffic. I will be writing important points while considering the keywords in your webpage.

1)When you are writing the title of the web page, that is the right place to put your main key word. Please be precise when writing the title and also the order words are important. Don’t use any punctuation and common words like in,and, etc. For example, “KeyWords Optimization Techniques”.

2) You can write the meta-description tag which briefly explains the theme of the page. try to use the keywords effectively.

3)Header on the page. Use <h1> for the important keywords. That means when you are using the heading, please name it properly and don’t put any unnecessary words.

4)It is important to high light the key words using tags <b>,<i>,<h3>,<h2>. Writing article is not the only job for you, using the proper keywords only show your page in the google.

5)Don’t use the keywords more number of times. It depends on the length of your web page but try to spread the keywords across the page. Over-repetition of keywords on a page might be interpreted as spam by the search engines.

6)Use keywords in the anchor texts. For example, instead of using the anchor text as “see here”, use the keywords in anchor text. That is another place where search engines give importance.

What is Web Hosting?...

If you want to take part in the internet as a business, information resource, web-hostingdirectory, or as a hobbyist wanting to share data, information and knowledge with the many people and communities on the internet, you have to contain this in a central spot on the internet. You have to own a piece of space in cyberspace.

Web hosting empowers you and anyone with a computer and internet connection to own a piece of cyberspace. In your space, you can have news, bulletins, documents, data, files (your web site) and your own post office (mail server) to accept mail, all in the context of you or your business. This is your space and to get this space you either have to own a piece of the physical internet with a network connection to the internet backbone and computer(s) operating as server(s) offering access to your files and post office, for people on the internet to view your web site or send and receive email with you.

The cost of owning a direct connection to the backbone and a server dedicated to a web site and email is out of reach for the average business web-hosting-1and especially general members of the internet. Even running a web site and mail server on your own computer when it is connected to the internet requires a lot of technical ability and knowledge. The internet itself has to be your business for either of these options to be viable.

In our modern society, for every person in business or with a career in most industries today, it is imperative to have a place in cyberspace, not just to be competitive but to survive. web hosting companies were born out of this great need to provide an environment for the masses to own a piece of cyberspace, to offer an environment where people could have their piece of cyberspace on the internet 24/7 without the great cost. web hosting companies developed a model where they could split up areas on the servers connected to the backbone and ?rent? this space, cutting the costs across many people sharing the server and backbone connection to the internet.

In a web-hosting environment, you are offered a web site to place your files, data, documents, and bulletins for people to access with their web browser and an email server for you to send and receive email messages. The web host will also provide you a means to get an address for people to get to your web site with a web browser and post email to you.

To obtain space in a web hosting environment you become a member and agree to terms and conditions of renting the space ? just as if you were to rent a house or commercial premises for your business. Once you agree and become a member, you are given an access code, a key, to your piece of cyberspace. This key, in the form of a login and password, allows you to connect to the web hosting server and up-load (transfer to) your web site so it can be accessed on the internet. Your login and password is also used to connect to a mail server to create and administer mailboxes to send and receive email for you, your staff, or family members.

Just like when you rent a house or commercial premises for your business, you have so many rooms, bathrooms, and floor space to use. In a web-hosting environment, your area is defined as disk space and network transfer.

Disk space is measured in Megabytes (MB) or Gigabytes (GB). Megabyte roughly means 1,024,000 characters and Gigabyte roughly means 1,024 Million characters. Imagine a character as one key on your key board. These amounts determine how many files, documents, or data you can have on your web site.

Network Transfer is also measured in Megabytes or gigabytes which determines how much data (how many of your files, documents or data) can be downloaded (transferred to) people accessing your web site. The more people, or the more data each person accesses on your web site the more data is transferred on the network.

The more disk space and network transfer you use the greater percentage of the web-hosting environment you are using ? therefore the higher the rent.

Just as no office building and home is the same, neither is every web-hosting environment. Some offices have stairs, others have lifts, some houses have ensuites, swimming pools, and gardens, ? and others do not. Web-hosting environments are much the same, some offer bare structures to do just the basics and others offer an array of features and facilities to help you do just about everything you could ever need or want. Some of the features and facilities likely to be offered are ranges of software to use, components, databases, and server side script processing.

The similarity of renting an office or home to renting space in a web-hosting environment is even more similar. With some buildings a gardener and/or a guard is available to look after the gardening or provide security. In a web-hosting environment, you have support people to help you do what you need to do on your web site to make it grow and there are server administrators to protect and secure your web-hosting space.

Google’s Twitter Account...

Google has recently launched a Twitter account to share byte-sized news and updates. Twitter, a startup founded by two former Googlers, started to become very popular and it’s regarded as the next evolution of blogging.

Here are some other official Twitter accounts for Google services and products:

* YouTube, which has more than 14,000 followers

* Blogger, which answers many questions from users

* Google Reader, which share useful tricks for using the feed reader more effectively

* Google Apps, a feed that shares articles about the evolution of Google’s software-as-a-service business

* App Engine - a not-so-frequently updated list of Google App Engine news.

In other news, you can follow the latest headlines from this blog at twitter.com/googleos, where I’ll also post news and tips not included in the blog. Send your tips, questions and suggestions to @googleos.

Google Flags All Search Results as Malware...

Many users report that Google started to flag all search results as malware. The problem is that Google no longer links to the search results flagged as malware and it sends users to a diagnostic page. Apparently, the bug has been fixed in about half an hour.

“This is by far the strangest thing I have ever seen on Google, but I don’t know if it is happening to everyone or just me. With every search I do (as of two minutes ago), every page is marked This site may harm your computer,” reported Albert Rodenius.

“Google has been acting up in extremely odd ways the last 24 hours. Right now, every single site on the web gets the message This site may harm your computer in its search result. (I never knew the Internet was that dangerous). Second, the number of server errors over the past 24 hours I’ve run into has been astonishing; over half my Google search queries have returned 404, long before the unsafe sites problem showed up. Now, most of the time when I click on the This site may harm your computer link, I get a server error,” mentioned Greg Spira, a reader of this blog.
